      <image:title>Work - Free School for Writing, 2010-present</image:title>
<image:caption>The Free School for Writing is an ongoing project conceived as a modular, itinerant classroom where writers, artists and lifelong learners can exchange skills and ideas around writing, literature, and education. The project’s name alludes to a tradition of DIY free schools based on gift economy principles. Classes have taken the form of literary craft talks, bilingual writing workshops, performative experiments, and art installations. The work of the Free School values artistic excellence; the voices and educational goals of writers and students of a broad spectrum of cultures, life experiences, and levels of literacy; lifelong learning adapted to learners’ and communities’ particular circumstances; a do-it-yourself ethic; and the human need for balance and connection. At this informal, welcoming “school,” caregivers can bring babies or others in their care if they need to.</image:caption>
